Condensers and evaporators are both core heat exchange components in refrigeration systems. They perform different functions. The condenser is responsible for heat rejection, while the evaporator is responsible for heat absorption.
Under normal operating conditions, the service life of a copper-tube shell and tube condenser is typically 10–15 years. The service life of a stainless steel shell and tube condenser is typically over 15 years. A titanium-tube shell and tube condenser can last more than 20 years in a seawater environment.
To provide you with an accurate model selection and quotation, we recommend providing the following technical parameters: Refrigerant, Cooling Capacity, Water Inlet Temperature, Water Outlet Temperature, Flow Rate, and Operating Pressure.
What Is The Shell And Tube Condenser
The shell and tube condenser is a high-efficiency heat exchange device that achieves refrigerant condensation through heat transfer between hot and cold media. It has a wide range of applications and is one of the most common and mature types of condensing equipment used in modern refrigeration systems.
How Does A Shell And Tube Condenser Work
A shell and tube condenser is a heat exchange device that facilitates the condensation of refrigerant through heat exchange between hot and cold media. It cools and condenses the high-temperature, high-pressure refrigerant vapor discharged from the compressor into a liquid, thereby supplying a stable flow of liquid refrigerant for the subsequent stages of the refrigeration cycle.
Operational Process
Step 1: High-temperature refrigerant enters the condenser and releases heat.
Step 2: The cooling medium flows through the heat exchange tubes, absorbing the heat released by the refrigerant.
Step 3: The high-temperature refrigerant and the low-temperature cooling medium are separated by the walls of the heat exchange tubes—preventing direct contact—while heat exchange takes place.
Step 4: As heat is continuously removed, the refrigerant gradually transitions from a high-temperature gas to a liquid state, completing the condensation process.
Step 5: The cooling water, having absorbed the heat, exits the condenser and enters another cooling system to be cooled down before being recirculated.
Shell And Tube Condenser Components
A shell and tube condenser consists of components such as the shell, heat exchanger tube bundle, tube sheets, baffles, and end caps.Â
During operation, the refrigerant typically flows through the shell side, while the cooling water flows through the tube side; heat exchange occurs across the tube walls. The refrigerant releases heat and gradually condenses into a liquid, thereby completing the condensation process of the refrigeration cycle.
Shell And Tube Condenser Calculation
The selection and design calculation of a shell and tube condenser aim to ensure sufficient heat transfer area and adequate condensing capacity to meet system loads, while guaranteeing stable operation under various conditions.
- Determine the required cooling capacity.
- Determine the cooling water inlet and outlet temperatures and the cooling water flow rate.
- Determine the condensing temperature.
- Select the heat transfer area.
- Assess the operating environment and select appropriate materials.
- Determine the operating pressure.
Send us your operating conditions, our engineers will provide professional shell and tube condenser calculation and selection within 24 hours.
